CDOT says there were 3,437 wildlife-vehicle collisions reported in Colorado in 2013, below the 10-year average of 3,605. There’s usually an increase in wildlife accidents during migration seasons in May and November.

GLENWOOD SPRINGS (AP) – A gate is being installed at the Hanging Lake rest area to help stem overcrowding and parking issues that have been getting worse over the years. Roughly 131,000 people a year hike the 1.2-mile trail to the small turquoise lake, almost all of them between May and September.

DENVER (AP) – The Mount Evans Highway will not reopen to traffic by Memorial Day weekend as planned because of this month’s heavy snowfall. CDOT says crews had cleared only six miles of the 14.7-mile road as of Monday. About four 4 feet of snow has fallen in May.
CRIMINAL CHARGES DROPPED IN DEADLY BASALT CRASH
ASPEN (AP) – A judge has dismissed the case against an elderly man accused of crashing into and killing a motorcyclist while driving on the wrong side of the road in Basalt. John Walls, who was 89 at the time of the Aug. 23 crash that killed 53-year-old Patrick Dunn, of Basalt, had faced charges of careless driving causing death, reckless endangerment and a traffic-lane violation.
