WASHINGTON (AP) – The inspector general for the Environmental Protection Agency is investigating the cause of a massive spill from an abandoned Colorado gold mine that unleashed 3 million gallons of contaminated wastewater. The inspector general’s office said the investigation also will focus on the EPA’s response to the Aug. 5 spill from the defunct Gold King Mine near Silverton.

DENVER (AP) – Colorado Medicaid officials say they mistakenly mailed some people’s protected health information to the wrong address. Information belonging to 1,622 households was incorrectly mailed to other people between May 25 and July 5. The department says none of the letters had Social Security numbers or other financial information.

LAS VEGAS (AP) – Wet weather in May and June prompted optimistic projections today from federal water managers keeping close tabs on the Colorado River water supply for about 40 million residents in seven Southwest U.S. states. Water agency officials in Arizona, Nevada and California say the Bureau of Reclamation is reporting it expects to make normal water deliveries at least through 2016.

STEAMBOAT SPRINGS, Colo. (AP) – The 5th annual USA Pro Cycling Challenge is under way with a two-lap circuit race in and around Steamboat Springs. Monday’s route includes five climbs, including one King of the Mountain checkpoint. In the absence of two-time champion Tejay van Garderen, Rohan Dennis of Australia and teammate Damiano Caruso of Italy are among the favorites in this year’s race.
