CARBONDALE STRUCTURE FIRE INVESTIGATED
Carbondale—An early morning fire at the Third Street Center in Carbondale is being investigated. According to reports from the Carbondale and Rural Fire Protection District, crews responded to a structure fire at 1:30 this morning at the popular community center. When they arrived, crews saw smoke coming out of the east side of the building. The fire however, had already been snuffed out by the sprinkler system. Deputy Fire Chief Rob Goodwin says the sprinkler system prevented the fire from spreading and causing further damage. He says the fire started in the office of the Center for Independence. Goodwin says the cause of the fire remains under investigation but the Center will be closed for a while.
