Glenwood Springs–Garfield County Sheriff Lou Vallario reminded the Board of Commissioners this morning that he is not going to prohibit the sale of personal fireworks but he is warning people to keep them in the box fo the next few months due to the dangerously high fire danger.
Basalt–Former Basalt High School PE Teacher and girl’s varsity basketball coach Lauren Redfern is back behind bars. Redfern, who had bonded out of jail in February for having a sexual relationship with an underage male student was contacted by officers with the National Park Service in the Glen Canyon Recreation area in Utah for allegedly firing a shotgun, drinking and using illegal mushrooms. She was booked into the Eagle County jail last Friday.
Fort Collins–The High Park fire west of Fort Collins has now destroyed a state record 181 homes and has scorched close to 91 square miles, which is just over 58 thousand acres. Several firefighters from the Roaring Fork Valley are on the scene battling the wind-driven wildfire.
DENVER (AP) – Court records show a state lawmaker who voted against a comprehensive rewrite of Colorado’s sex-offender registration laws has a convicted sex offender living at his house. The Denver Post reports Michael Frierson lives at Republican Rep. Randy Baumgardner’s address in Hot Sulphur Springs and was arrested at the home for failing to register as a sex offender. Baumgardner says he wanted to provide a second chance by giving him work.
DENVER (AP) – GOP presidential candidate Mitt Romney’s campaign has opened its Colorado headquarters in Lakewood. Colorado has become an important swing state that could decide who wins the White House in November. Former Sen. Rick Santorum won the state’s GOP presidential caucuses in February but has since dropped out of the race.
