Rifle – The Garfield Re-2 school board has voted to switch to a four-day school week for students starting in August. The board voted 4-1 to accept the plan for students to attend class four days per week, for longer hours each day. The
Post Independent reports the school board will decide later this
spring on details including which days students will attend class.

DENVER (AP) – Former Colorado Lt. Gov. Ted Strickland has died.
The Adams County coroner’s office confirmed Strickland’s death
yesterday but had no further details. The Denver Post reports the
79-year-old had been in faltering health. The Republican served in
both the Colorado House and Senate. He was lieutenant governor from
1973 to 1975 under Gov. John Vanderhoof. Strickland ran for
governor in 1986 but lost to Roy Romer.
UNDATED (AP) – Firefighters say a large brush fire near homes in
Parker south of Denver is fully contained. The South Metro Fire
Rescue Authority says it appears kids playing with fireworks
sparked the fire yesterday. Temperatures along the Front Range have
been above average, and conditions are dry. However, winds are low.
Elsewhere, crews responded to several small fires.

BOULDER, Colo. (AP) – Boulder County’s district attorney says
federal prosecutors should back away from enforcement actions
against marijuana dispensaries in his jurisdiction if they’re
following state and local laws. The Daily Camera reports Stan
Garnett sent U.S. Attorney John Walsh a letter Tuesday saying it’s
his position that there’s no role for criminal enforcement against
dispensaries complying with local rules, which appear to be more
effective than criminal enforcement in controlling marijuana.
UNDATED (AP) — Warm temperatures and dry conditions have
contributed to several brush fires across Colorado. Firefighters
say children playing with fireworks apparently sparked a fire in
Parker south of Denver. That fire has been fully contained. Other
fires were reported in El Paso County, Larimer County and in
Broomfield.

ERIE, Colo. (AP) – Colorado Congressman Jared Polis says
residents have a right to know what oil and natural gas drilling
will mean for their air, water and property values. The Democrat
met yesterday with Erie residents concerned about hydraulic
fracturing, or fracking. Polis has sponsored a bill in Congress to
remove the oil and gas industry’s exemption from the Safe Drinking
Water Act and require the disclosure of the chemicals used in
fracking fluids.

DENVER (AP) – The destination club Inspirato is helping
charitable organizations raise money while also building its
business. Its new Inspired Giving program allows donors who
contribute at least $2,000 to charitable organizations in the
program to buy vacations at certain Inspirato properties at member
prices.
