CATHERINE STORE ROAD WASTE TRANSFER STATION VOTE DELAYED

Glenwood Springs–The vote on the proposed 40 thousand square foot waste transfer station east of Carbondale has been put off for now. After more than six hours of public testimony and presentations on the MRI project, the Board of County Commissioners voted to continue the public hearing until Monday, November 19th at 1pm. Commissioner Mike Samson made the motion to continue the hearing saying not everyone had a chance to voice their concerns.

DENVER (AP) – Oil and gas companies are asking a federal appeals court to give the U.S. Department of Interior tougher guidelines on issuing oil and gas leases. The 10th Circuit Court of Appeals in Denver was scheduled to hear arguments Tuesday about whether the Department’s Bureau of Land Management must issue oil and gas leases within 60 days after they’re sold. The energy companies want the appeals court to overturn a federal ruling issued last year in Wyoming.

DENVER (AP) – A Denver police sergeant involved in a Western Slope lawmaker’s DUI traffic stop in January has been demoted. Public safety officials had recommended termination for Benita Packard. An investigation found that Packard returned a handgun to Rep. Laura Bradford of Collbran then failed to disclose it on a police report or to supervisors. Possessing a handgun while intoxicated is illegal. Under a settlement, Packard will serve a 10 day suspension and be demoted to patrol officer. Packard has been an officer since 1982. Police cited Bradford for an illegal lane change and careless driving. A patrol officer says Bradford nearly hit a car and did poorly on a sobriety test. An ethics panel cleared Bradford ethical misconduct. She later decided not to seek reelection.

DENVER (AP)–A dusting of snow in the High Country on Monday morning prompted “likes” across Facebook and reports from several ski areas teasing the upcoming season. reports snow acknowledgements were passed along by Loveland Ski Area, Arapahoe Basin, Winter Park Resort and Copper Mountain, among other ski areas and resorts.
