Local control, mineral rights, public health risks. Those are a few of the issues that will be discussed in Rifle today and tomorrow by the Colorado Oil and Gas Task Force. Governor Hickenlooper’s nineteen member task force is charged with addressing local land use issues and the role of state government in high production areas like Garfield County.
Garfield County oil and gas liaison Kirby Wynn says the task force will also hear from mineral owners. The two-day meeting is being held in Farm Fresh Cafe and Steakhouse in Rifle. Citizens will have a chance to address the task force tonight from 5:00 to 7:00. The information in public comments gathered over the next several weeks will be delivered to Governor Hickenlooper in February.
