[From Garfield County Sheriff Press Release]
Today at approximately 12:38 PM Garfield County Deputies responded to a call from an observer who reported that a man had fallen from a raft on the Colorado River east of the Grizzly Creek Rest area (58060 US Highway 6).
There were originally three people in the raft, two males and one female. The male and female were able to pull the third party back into the raft and begin CPR while still in the raft. The raft landed at the Grizzly Creek Rest Area at approximately 12:42 PM.
CPR was continued on shore however the patient was unresponsive.
EMTs from Glenwood Fire arrived on scene at approximately 12:46 and continued to try to revive the patient. Their attempts proved unsuccessful. The scene was secured and the County Coroner was notified.
The name of the victim will be released by the Garfield County Coroner once the identity has been verified and the next of kin notified.
