Paraglider Rescued Near Deep Lake

Garfield County Search and Rescue crews were able to find and rescue a paraglider that was reported missing over the weekend.  According to the Garfield County Sheriff’s Office, 26 year old Mitchell Stubbs was reported missing by his father late Friday night when he didn’t return to camp north of Deep Lake after leaving to go paragliding.

Search and Rescue volunteers began looking for Stubbs at 6:00 Saturday morning and were later assisted by a helicopter, which located a parachute on the ground around 1:00 Saturday afternoon.  Stubbs was alive, but had sustained injuries to his abdomen.  He was flown by helicopter to Valley View Hospital.

The mission wasn’t considered complete until seven hours later when all Search and Rescue volunteers were finally out of the field (around 9:20 PM).

Stubbs’ hometown is unknown.
