Police vehicles hit while investigating crash

Two more patrol vehicles were struck last night while investigating a crash. This crash, a result of an intoxicated driver, comes just weeks after two patrol vehicles were hit on I-70, east of Aurora, resulting in injuries to one of our Troopers.

Just before 9:00 p.m. last night, two Colorado State Patrol vehicles were involved in a crash after a Chevrolet truck hit a CSP Ford Crown Victoria pushing it into a CSP Dodge Charger. This crash occurred as troopers investigated a crash on the ramp to I-76 from northbound I-25. This time, no one was injured.Β The troopers vehicles were positioned blocking the left lane of the exit ramp with emergency lights activated. The troopers were not in their vehicles at the time of the crash.

The driver of the truck, Mr. Keith Kilbey, age 23, from Arvada, was arrested following the crash and charged with Driving Under the Influence of Drugs.

“It is unacceptable that troopers and their vehicles continue to be hit on our roadways.” said Corporal H. Cobler. Drivers are required to move over or slow down upon approaching a stationary emergency vehicle.”This time we were fortunate, but many officers across the nation are not so lucky.” The Colorado State Patrol urges residents of Colorado to “be responsible, sober, and focused drivers.”
