GLENWOOD SPRINGS, Colo. (AP) – A Garfield County teen who survived a shooting that left her boyfriend dead told authorities that her stepfather shot them because he didn’t want them dating.
39-year-old Fredy Argueta Cabrera may face first-degree murder charges after allegedly shooting his stepdaughter and her boyfriend on Wednesday. Douglas Menjivar later died. Leydy Trejo was recovering at a Denver hospital after being shot in the leg. She’s a senior at Basalt High School.
Cabrera owns the El Horizonte restaurants in Glenwood Springs and Carbondale. Arrest warrants indicate that Trejo told authorities that Cabrera didn’t like her boyfriend and didn’t like them dating.
Cabrera turned himself in to police in Mesa County on Thursday. He is being held without bond in Garfield County.
