Denver—Jiri Hudler and Joe Colborne had a goal and assist each, and Mike Cammalleri scored a power-play goal at 16:30 of the third period to lift the Calgary Flames to a 4-3 win over the Colorado Avalanche last night.Sean Monahan also scored and Karri Ramo stopped 22 shots for the Flames, who broke out of an offensive slump to end a four-game skid.Calgary came into the game having been shutout in three of its last four games. The Flames’ only goal since Dec. 23 came in a 4-1 loss to Philadelphia.Nathan MacKinnon had two goals and Paul Stastny had a goal and two assists for the Avalanche, who had won three straight coming into the game.

UNDATED (AP) – Lindsey Vonn will not get to defend her Olympic title in the women’s downhill. The four-time overall World Cup champion is going to have surgery on her re-injured, surgically-repaired right knee, according to her publicist, and she’ll miss the Olympics in Sochi next month.
BORMIO, Italy (AP) – The International Ski Federation has tweaked its Olympic qualification rules to allow racers like Ted Ligety (LIG’-ih-tee) and some high-profile Austrians to compete in the super-combined at next month’s Sochi Games. FIS secretary general Sarah Lewishas told The Associated Press that downhill races will be able to count toward the three super-combined finishes required over the qualification period of this season.
MOSCOW (AP) – Russia has begun ramping up stringent security measures in its southern resort of Sochi, one month before the start of the 2014 Winter Olympics. Starting today, all vehicles are banned from the area except for those registered in Sochi or with special Olympics passes.
PASADENA, Calif. (AP) – Florida State is basking in the glow of a perfect season and national championship after edging Auburn last night 34-31 in the BCS title game. The Seminoles received all 60 first-place votes in the final Associated Press poll after finishing a 14-0 season. The 12-2 Tigers finished second.
EAST LANSING, Mich. (AP) – No. 5 Michigan State hosts third-ranked Ohio State in a Big Ten showdown in college basketball tonight. The 15-0 Buckeyes haven’t allowed an opponent to score 70 points this season. The 13-1 Spartans go into the top five match-up having won six in a row after their only loss of the season to North Carolina at home.
