Support for Beating Victim

Residents in Eagle are rallying together to support a local woman who was savagely beaten early this week while doing her job as a bartender.

Locals have started a GoFundMe account for Dita Richterova, as well as a fund at the Brush Creek Saloon in Eagle where she works. Richterova was the only employee in the bar Monday morning when a little after 1 am, investigators say that 34-year-old Pedro Gonzalez followed her into the kitchen and began beating her – first with a beer bottle and then with his fists. Eagle police say that security footage of the incident also shows Gonzalez banging Richterova’s head against a sink.

Richterova was eventually able to get away from Gonzalez and escape to a neighboring apartment to call for help. Eagle police say that if she had not escaped when she did, she would have been killed.

Gonzalez was arrested without incident a few hours later in a nearby rented room. He is currently in the Eagle County Jail on a $500,000 bond facing charges of attempted first-degree murder and first-degree assault, which could end up putting him behind bars for the better part of the next 50 years.

The owners of the Brush Creek Saloon say that they will now be closing down at midnight several nights a week, and they plan to have security guards onsite.
