Suspect in Custody After Twice Running From Deputies

RIFLE, Colo. (AP) – A man accused in a crime spree that included him driving an SUV across the tarmac of the Garfield County Regional Airport is jailed on multiple charges.

Sheriff’s officials said Wednesday that 28-year-old Jason Allen Lewis could face charges including aggravated motor vehicle theft and vehicular eluding, among others.

Authorities say deputies were chasing a stolen SUV Friday night on a county road, but the driver ran away after crashing. Later, authorities investigating a burglary near the airport noticed shoeprints that matched ones from the pursuit scene. As authorities searched for the suspect, a different SUV drove onto the airport tarmac.

Authorities say the suspect was arrested after the SUV went down an embankment, taking out about 50 yards of airport fencing and causing an estimated $1,500 in damage.
