“I am happy to announce that the Family Resource Center of the Roaring Fork School District has been awarded a grant of $15,000 for emergency assistance and $22,000 for general operating support by the Aspen Community Foundation,” Jenny Lindsay, Executive Director of the Family Resource Center announced today. The grant will be used to provide services and case management to students and families in the Roaring Fork School District, including Basalt, Carbondale and Glenwood Springs.
The mission of the Family Resource Center is to improve student health, well-being and academic achievement by connecting families, schools and communities.
Through the Student Health and Well-Being Program the Family Resource Center connects students who are having difficulty in school due to health, family or social issues with community resources. The Center assists students and their families in gaining access to services for health, food, rent, utilities, childcare, tutoring and enrichment activities by helping them to navigate the “system.” They provide transportation and translation if these are barriers, work to ensure that the services received are integrated and coordinated, and help families obtain funding for needed services when they do not have the means. Referrals are made by school personnel, other agencies, or through family self-referral.
This grant from the Aspen Community Foundation will give us additional resources to provide services to families in the community. Over the past 16 years the Family Resource Center has been granted over $750,00.00 in unrestricted, field of interest, and Donor Advised Funds by the Aspen Community Foundation. The Family Resource Center recognizes the importance of community support through unrestricted grantmaking, field of interest funds, and donor advised funds.
In addition to the Student Health and Well-being Program the Family Resource Center advocates for youth and families in the community, provides a variety parenting classes, and provides health education resources to students, classrooms, teachers, and parents.
