Third Arrest Made in Pfister Homicide

The Pitkin County Sheriff’s Office arrested Kathy Carpenter, age 56,  at approximately 7:00 p.m. on Friday, March 14, 2014 in connection to the homicide of Aspen resident Nancy Pfister. Ms. Carpenter was arrested at her home in Aspen without incident and is facing charges of Murder in the First Degree, a class 1 felony, and Conspiracy to Commit First Degree Murder, a class 2 felony. Carpenter is being held in the Pitkin County Jail without bond.

Carpenter’s arrest comes 11 days after the arrests of William F. Styler III, age 65, and Nancy Christine Styler, age 62,  who were arrested on March 3, 2014. The Stylers have been in the custody of the Pitkin County Jail since the time of their arrest. All three inmates are being separated within the jail facility.

This case remains active and under investigation and investigators are still developing leads and interviewing witnesses.  As previously stated, preserving the integrity of this case for successful prosecution is paramount to this office. Therefore, there will be no further information released regarding this arrest.

On Monday March 17, 2014 at 10:30 a.m. in Pitkin County District Court William and  Nancy Styler will be formally charged. Kathy Carpenter will have also have an advisement at 3:00 p.m. the same day. There will be a press conference after the 3:00 p.m. court proceedings are concluded.
