GARFIELD COUNTY, Colo. – A 29-year-old Glenwood Springs woman was seriously injured Thursday evening in rollover crash east of Rifle on Interstate 70. Her name is being held pending notification of her family.
Just before 5 p.m. Thursday, 35-year-old Jesse Wanner, of Rifle, lost control of a 2006 Mitsubishi Lancer westbound on Interstate 70 near milepost 93, approximately three miles east of Rifle. The vehicle overturned multiple times off the right side of the interstate.
There were four occupants in the vehicle, and two male passengers walked away with minor injuries. The female passenger was transported to Grand River Hospital with serious injuries. All occupants appeared to be wearing their safety belts.
Wanner also was transported to Grand River with serious injuries. The cause of the crash is still under investigation, but alcohol and excessive speed are being considered possible contributing factors. Wanner potentially faces felony vehicular assault, among other charges.
Westbound Interstate 70 was closed for approximately 45 minutes during the investigation. Traffic was diverted at Exit 94 during the closure.
The Colorado State Patrol would like to remind drivers to always designate a sober driver and to obey the posted speed limits. These are decisions that will save lives.
