MLB / ROCKIES

DENVER (AP) – German Marquez allowed three hits over eight innings and got his first major league hit with a two-run single in the seventh to lead the Colorado Rockies over the Chicago Cubs 3-0 on Wednesday. Marquez had a no-hit bid going until Kris Bryant’s double leading off the seventh inning. He walked Kyle Schwarber in the first and retired 16 straight before Bryant’s hit to left.  The 22-year-old Marquez (1-2) struck out eight by mixing in a mid-90s fastball with an assortment of breaking pitches. With two on and two outs in the seventh, Marquez broke opener the game with his liner to left. The Rockies bench gave him an ovation. Greg Holland threw a perfect ninth for his 14th save in as many chances to help the Rockies take two of three from Chicago.  Tonight the Rockies welcome the red hot LA Dodgers to Coors Field for the first of a four game series.  Tyler Anderson is on the hill for Colorado while Hyun-JinRyu pitches for the Dodgers.

ANAHEIM, Calif. (AP) – The Anaheim Ducks have cleared a major hurdle with their victory over Edmonton, after losing Game 7s four years in a row. Now they have to face another prominent obstacle from their playoff past: Nashville goalie Pekka Rinne (PEH’-kuh RIH’-neh), who ran Anaheim out of the first round last season. The Ducks face the surging Predators in the NHL Western Conference finals starting Friday.

PITTSBURGH (AP) – Defending Stanley Cup champion Pittsburgh is moving on to the Eastern Conference finals after beating the Washington Capitals in Game 7 for the fourth time. The Penguins will host the Ottawa Senators in Game 1 on Saturday.

HOUSTON (AP) – The San Antonio Spurs are a victory away from eliminating the Houston Rockets and advancing to the Western Conference finals for the first time since winning the NBA title in 2014. But heading into tonight’s Game 6 in Houston, the Spurs’ MVP candidate Kawhi (kuh-WY’) Leonard is listed as questionable after rolling his ankle Tuesday in Game 5.

UNDATED (AP) – Houston’s Dallas Keuchel (KY’-kehl) and Baltimore’s Dylan Bundy can become the majors’ first six-win pitchers this season. They’re among a pack of pitchers tied for the league lead with five victories. Keuchel can do Bundy’s Orioles a favor by beating the Yankees in New York tonight, while Bundy will pitch the finale of a four-game series against NL East-leading Washington.

NEW YORK (AP) – The WNBA is entering the daily fantasy sports market. The league has announced a partnership with FanDuel. The site will offer daily fantasy contests in which people can win money by picking a lineup of WNBA players and pitting them against other players. It will also offer free WNBA contests in which participants can win courtside tickets and merchandise. It’s the first time a women’s professional sports league will be available in one-day fantasy games.
