Johnstown—The 6th seeded Rifle Bears (10-1) are on the road to battle the number 3 seed and 10-1 Roughriders of Roosevelt High School Saturday afternoon at 1 o’clock. The winner will advance to next week’s semifinal showdown with either Evergreen or Fort Morgan. KMTS will be on hand with live, play-by-play coverage from Johnstown beginning at 12:45.

NEW YORK (AP) – Nathan MacKinnon scored the tying goal in the third period and then connected in the shootout as the Colorado Avalanche rallied for a 4-3 victory over the New York Rangers on Thursday night.
ENGLEWOOD (AP) – The Denver Broncos have placed middle linebacker Nate Irving on season-ending injured reserve and claimed rookie linebacker Todd Davis off waivers from the New Orleans Saints.Irving was having the best season of his four-year career when he tore his right MCL at New England on Nov. 2. His timeline for returning to the field was four to six weeks.
With fellow linebacker Danny Trevathan (leg) already designated to return next month, the Broncos had to put Irving on season-ending IR on Thursday.
Irving finished the season with 44 tackles, including six for a loss, and a sack. He was replaced by Steven Johnson in the starting lineup.
Davis, from Sacramento State, was a special teams player for the Saints.
LOS ANGELES (AP) – Nelson Agholor caught a career-high 16 passes for 216 yards and two touchdowns, and Cody Kessler passed for 371 yards and four scores in Southern California’s 38-30 victory over California on Thursday night. George Farmer and Randall Telfer also caught TD passes for the Trojans (7-3, 6-2 Pac-12), who beat their upstate rivals for the 11th straight time.
UNDATED (AP) – The men’s and women’s college basketball seasons get underway in a big way this evening. Most of the ranked schools are in action, including the two Number Ones – Kentucky for the men and Connecticut for the women.
MIAMI GARDENS, Fla. (AP) – The Dolphins scored 19 unanswered points in a 22-9 win over the Bills last night. Ryan Tannehill (TAN’-eh-hihl) tossed for two second-half touchdowns in the win for the 6-4 Dolphins. The Bills dropped to 5-5.
NEW YORK (AP) – To say the least, 2014 was quite a season for pitcher Clayton Kershaw of the Los Angeles Dodgers. Just a day after winning the National League Cy Young Award, Kershaw was named the league’s Most Valuable Player. He is the first National Leaguer to win both awards for the same season since Bob Gibson in 1968.
NEW YORK (AP) – At the age of 23, Mike Trout of the Angels is the youngest player to ever be a unanimous winner of the American League Most Valuable Player of the year award. His win comes after back to back runner-up finishes.
DETROIT (AP) – A person with knowledge of the deal says free agent slugger Victor Martinez has agreed to a four-year contract with the Tigers. The 35-year old, who would reportedly earn $68 million over the length of the deal, hit his .335 with 32 home runs and 103 runs batted in last season.
