ATLANTA (AP) – Jonny Gomes drove in three runs with two hits, including a two-run homer in the first, and the Atlanta Braves beat the Colorado Rockies 5-3 on Monday night to end their seven-game losing streak. Adonis Garcia snapped a 2-2 tie with a homer off Jorge De La Rosa (7-6) in the fourth. Gomes’ fifth-inning single drove in Cameron Maybin, who doubled. The losing streak was Atlanta’s longest of the season. The Rockies have lost four straight. Chad Bettis returns to the mound for the Rockies as they try to even the series against the Atlanta Braves. Game begins 5:10 p.m.

CENTENNIAL (AP) – John Bowlen, the 29-year-old son of Denver Broncos owner Pat Bowlen, pleaded not guilty Monday to domestic violence charges stemming from a June 3 altercation with his girlfriend. He’s due in Arapahoe County District Court again Oct. 27 for a motions hearing. County prosecutors told The Denver Post a jury trial was set for Dec. 15. The younger Bowlen was arrested this summer after allegedly pushing his girlfriend during an argument in Glendale. He was arrested on suspicion of third-degree assault and harassment. He is on indefinite leave from his job with the Broncos as a marketing assistant.

NEW YORK (AP) – A pair of first-place clubs are squaring off again tonight in the Bronx as the Yankees play host to the Astros. Last night in the opening game of the series, the home team prevailed 1-0. The Yankees are tied with the Blue Jays for first in the American League East while the Astros top the Angels by 3  1/2 games in the AL West.

SAN FRANCISCO (AP) – The Chicago Cubs are just about the hottest club in baseball. The team managed by Joe Maddon has won 21 of its last 26 games to take a 5  1/2 game lead over the Giants for the second National League wild card berth. Tonight the Giants are playing host to the Cubbies.

UNDATED (AP) – IndyCar driver Justin Wilson has died from a head injury suffered when a piece of debris from another vehicle struck him during Sunday’s race at Pocono Raceway. Wilson’s vehicle veered into an interior wall at the track and he is the first IndyCar driver to die because of an on-track accident since Dan Wheldon in the 2011 season finale at Las Vegas.

GREEN BAY, Wis. (AP) – The Green Bay Packers got bad news yesterday as they learned that wide receiver Jordy Nelson will miss the entire 2015 season with a knee injury. He was injured Sunday in a preseason loss at Pittsburgh. Green Bay will be without a playmaker that set career highs in receptions and yards receiving in 2014.

CHARLOTTE, N.C. (AP) – The Charlotte Hornets have worked out a new deal with forward Michael Kidd-Gilchrist. A person familiar with the situation says he has agreed to a four-year, $52 million contract extension with the club. Kidd-Gilchrist increased his offensive output last season and averaged a career-high 10.9 points, 7.6 rebounds and 1.4 assists in 55 games.
