HIGH SCHOOL BASKETBALL

The Glenwood Demons split with the Montrose Indians in the opening games of the demon invitational last night.  The Lady Demons lost 44-23 while the Glenwood boys came away with a 71-62 victory.  Senior Cam Horning led all scorers with 21 points.  Tonight, glenwood battles 3A powerhouse, Faith Christian at 6:30 and 8pm.  Both games will be broadcast live on KMTS.

The Denver Nuggets host the Minnesota Timberwolves tonight at 7.

NHL

The Colorado Avalanche travel to Nashville to battle the Predators tomorrow night at 6.

GLENDALE, Ariz. (AP) — The Cardinals held off the Vikings to win last night’s NFL game 23-20. In the closing seconds, with the Vikings trying to get in good position for a field goal, quarterback Teddy Bridgewater had the ball stripped from his arms. The Cards are 11-2 and have clinched a playoff berth.

ORLANDO, Fla. (AP) — Cleveland has won 14 of its first 21 games this season and stands on top of the Eastern Conference standings. All that without their starting guards Kyrie (ky-REE’) Irving and Iman (EE’-mahn) Shumpert. That may change this evening as the Irving may be in the lineup for the first time this season as the Cavs play in Orlando.

BOSTON (AP) — League champion Golden State is gunning for its 24th straight win of the season tonight. The Warriors are in Boston to face the Celtics. Golden State might not have Klay Thompson for the game as he rolled an ankle on Tuesday night against Indiana.

UNDATED (AP) — New contracts were handed out to two major college football coaches yesterday. For California coach Sonny Dykes it’s a two-year contract extension while Pat Narduzzi of Pittsburgh has had his pact extended through 2021.

AMES, Iowa (AP) — In the lone game in men’s basketball last night fourth-ranked Iowa State had to finish with a flurry to beat Iowa 83-82. The Hawkeyes led by 20 in the second half until the Cyclones finished the game on a 32-11 spurt to improve to 8-0.
