FORT COLLINS, Colo. (AP) – Colorado State head coach Kristen
Holt has resigned after four seasons in charge of the women’s
program. Assistant coach Dick Lien will fill in on an interim basis while
athletic director Jack Graham and the school conduct a search for
Holt’s replacement. This will be the third new coach Graham has had to hire since taking over at Colorado State. He hired football coach Jim McElwain
in December and just recently brought in Larry Eustachy to take
over in men’s basketball after Tim Miles left for Nebraska.
Holt was 50-71 with the Rams, including a 25-37 record in
Mountain West Conference play.
NEW YORK (AP) – The uncertainty at the very top of the NFL draft
disappeared a while ago when the Colts announced they would take
Stanford quarterback Andrew Luck and the Redskins made it clear
Heisman Trophy winner Robert Griffin III was their man. That
unofficially puts Minnesota on the clock and one thing seems
definite: anything could happen with the Vikings’ pick.
With a half-dozen or so players considered elite in this college
crop, Minnesota figure to choose between Southern California tackle
Matt Kalil, Alabama running back Trent Richardson, LSU cornerback
Morris Claiborne and Oklahoma State wide receiver Justin Blackmon.
Selecting Richardson would indicate concern by the Vikings about
the recovery of star running back Adrian Peterson from torn left
knee ligaments suffered in late December.
BOSTON (AP) – The defending Stanley Cup champion Boston Bruins
have been eliminated from the playoffs. There were beaten by
Washington in game seven of their opening round series last night,
2-1 in overtime. The seventh-seeded Caps got the game-winning goal
from Joel Ward.
UNDATED (AP) – A couple of Game 7’s will played tonight in the
Stanley Cup playoffs. In New York, the Rangers are entertaining the
Senators with the best-of-seven series tied at 3-3. And New Jersey
is skating at Florida.
UNDATED (AP) – The NBA’s regular season comes to an end this
evening with Charlotte trying to avoid becoming the worst team in
history. The Bobcats are teetering on the verge of the worst
winning percentage (.106) ever and would clinch the dubious
distinction with a loss at home to the Knicks. The Bobcats are a
woeful 7-58 this season while the 1972-’73 Philadelphia 76ers
finished 9-73 with a .110 winning percentage.
UNDATED (AP) – There are five afternoon games in Major League
Baseball. In the American League Cleveland is playing host to
Kansas City while Seattle is at Detroit and the Angels are at Tampa
Bay. In the National League, the Reds are hosting the Giants and
the Mets are home to Miami.
