Rifle—The Rifle Lady Bears lost yesterday’s season opener to the Delta Panthers 8 to 7 at Deerfield Park.

NFL/BRONCOS

Denver—The Denver Broncos lost the pre-season finale last night to the Arizona Cardinals 32-24.  The Broncos kick off the regular season next Thursday night at home against the defending Super Bowl Champion Baltimore Ravens.

MLB/ROCKIES

Denver—The Colorado Rockies host the Cincinnati Reds tonight at Coors Field.  The Dodgers come to town on Labor Day.

LOS ANGELES (AP) – Former Los Angeles Lakers basketball star Lamar Odom has been arrested for allegedly driving under the influence.The California Highway Patrol says Odom was stopped about 4 a.m. Friday after a CHP officer saw his white Mercedes-Benz traveling erratically on a San Fernando Valley freeway. The CHP says the 33-year-old Odom was arrested after failing a field sobriety test. Odom has been jailed on $15,000 bail. A message for his agent, Jeff Schwartz, was not immediately returned.
The 6-foot-10-inch forward has played for both the Lakers and Los Angeles Clippers.
He became a free agent at the end of last season.

PITTSBURGH (AP) – A showdown in the National League Central opens tonight in Pittsburgh with division-leading St. Louis visiting the Pirates, who trail by one game.  The pitching match-up promises to be a good one with 12-8 Shelby Miller going for the Cardinals against 14-6 Francisco Liriano.  Both have ERA’s under 3.00.

OAKLAND, Calif. (AP) – Tampa Bay invades Oakland tonight for the start of a series between the teams that hold the two American League wildcard spots.  Reigning AL Cy Young Award winner David Price will be looking for his sixth straight win for the Rays.  Oakland goes with Jarrod Parker who is 8-0 in 16 starts since May 22.

NORTON, Mass. (AP) – Star power is bunched in one group for today’s start of the Deutsche (DOY’-chuh) Bank Championship with Tiger Woods, Phil Mickelson and Adam Scott set to play together for the first two rounds.  It’s likely the PGA Player of the Year will come out of that group.  Woods has five wins this season heading into the second of the FedEx Cup playoff events, while Mickelson and Scott are multiple winners this year, each with a major title. 

UNDATED (AP) – Now that the NFL exhibition season is over, the final roster cutdowns should start filtering out today.  Teams have until tomorrow to go from the 75-man limit to the season-opening 53-man roster.

NEW YORK (AP) – Top-seed Serena Williams is back in action for the second straight day at the US Open taking on Yaroslava Shvedova tonight in an effort to reach the fourth round.  Men’s top-seed Novak Djokovic (NOH’-vak JOH’-kuh-vich) plays his second round match this afternoon, and defending champ Andy Murray is also on the schedule.
