BOSTON (AP) – The Red Sox are back in first place in the
American League East. Playing in front of their fans in Fenway
Park, the Sox beat the Yankees last night 3-2 in 10 innings. The
Yankees blew the lead in the bottom of the ninth when Mariano
Rivera gave way on a 2-1 lead. New York now trails the BoSox by a
game.
ARLINGTON, Texas (AP) – Cleveland’s Indians blew another late
inning lead last night. This time the Tribe wasted a 3-0 advantage
and a good outing by starter Josh Timlin as they lost to the
Rangers in Arlington, Texas, 5-3. The loss drops the Indians four
games back of Detroit with a big three game series starting
tomorrow night between the two clubs in Cleveland.
AKRON, Ohio (AP) – Adam Scott finished four shots in front of
Rickie Fowler and Luke Donald to win the Bridgestone Invitational
in Akron, Ohio. Scott shot a final round bogey-free 65 for a
17-under total. Tiger Woods wound up tied for 37th in his first
full tournament since the Masters in April.
LONG POND, Pa. (AP) – Brad Keselowski (kehz-LOW’-skee) took the
checkered flag to win Sunday’s Sprint Cup race at Pocono Raceway.
Just four days after breaking his left ankle in a head-on collision
during a test session, Keselowski held off Kurt Busch for the win.
EAST RUTHERFORD, N.J. (AP) – Prince Amukamara
(ah-moo-kuh-mahr-uh), the top draft pick of the NFL Giants, is
expected to have surgery on his broken left foot and may be
sidelined for up to two months. The former Nebraska All-American
cornerback was the 19th pick of the 2011 draft..
NEW YORK (AP) – The NFL is showing appreciation for its fans
after the lockout by having each team present a personalized jersey
to 90 supporters.
Some teams will have the 90 fans run through the tunnel flanked
by players and coaches during a preseason game. Other clubs will
hold a pregame ceremony before an exhibition.
The Green Bay Packers kicked off the program Saturday during a
special practice and scrimmage at Lambeau Field.
In a release announcing the program Monday, Commissioner Roger
Goodell said: “This is an opportunity to recognize the millions of
fans for their dedication and passion for the NFL, its teams and
players throughout the year.”
