Denver–After 11 solid seasons with the Minnesota Twins, All-Star outfielder Michael Cuddyer has signed a three year, 31 and a half million dollar contract with the Colorado Rockies. The Rockies also signed former Dodgers’ third baseman Casey Blake to a one year deal.

GREEN BAY, Wis. (AP) – Aaron Rodgers is the 2011 Male Athlete of
the Year chosen by members of The Associated Press after his MVP
performance in the Green Bay Packers’ Super Bowl victory in
February and his stellar play during the team’s long unbeaten run
this season. Rodgers received 112 votes out of the 212 ballots submitted from
U.S. news organizations that make up the AP’s membership. Detroit
Tigers pitcher Justin Verlander finished second with 50 votes,
followed by tennis standout Novak Djokovic, Carolina Panthers
rookie quarterback Cam Newton and NASCAR champion Tony Stewart.
Rodgers is one of three quarterbacks to receive the honor in the
past five years. The New Orleans Saints’ Drew Brees won last year
and the New England Patriots’ Tom Brady won in 2007.
CHICAGO (AP) – We’re expecting official word from the Bulls that
they’ve agreed with league MVP Derrick Rose on a new five-year
contract beginning with the 2012-13 season. A person familiar with
the situation tells the AP that it’s worth around $94 million. The
team has a news conference scheduled for noon Eastern time.
UNDATED (AP) – Rakeem Cato threw a pair of TD passes and
Marshall doubled up Florida International 20-10 in last night’s
bowl game in St. Pete, Florida. College football’s postseason
continues tonight with the Poinsettia Bowl in San Diego, pitting
TCU against Louisiana Tech
UNDATED (AP) – The two top teams in the AP poll were winners
last night. No. 1 Syracuse crushed Bucknell 80-61while
second-ranked Ohio State dumped Lamar 70-50.
PITTSBURGH (AP) – Evgeni Malkin pulled into a tie for the NHL
scoring lead with three assists in Pittsburgh’s 3-2 victory over
visiting Chicago. Malkin now has points in all six games since team
captain Sidney Crosby left the lineup again because of concussion
symptoms.
PARSIPPANY, N.J. (AP) – Eric LeGrand will be featured on the
front page of Sports Illustrated’s year-end issue as the 2011
Moment of the Year. It’s a picture of him riding his motorized
wheelchair while leading Rutgers’ football team onto the field for
a game in October. LeGrand was paralyzed from the neck down while
making a tackle during the 2010 season.
