ENGLEWOOD, Colo. (AP) – Tim Tebow has been informed that when
training camp starts this summer, he’ll be the starting quarterback
of the Denver Broncos. Broncos chief of football operations John
Elway, a Hall of Fame quarterback, says he will work in the
offseason with Tebow on his passing game.
DENVER (AP) – Denver Mayor Michael Hancock has made good on his
bet on the Broncos-Patriots playoff game with Boston Mayor Tom
Menino, wearing a Patriots jersey during a Denver Nuggets game.
Hancock wore the jersey during halftime of the Nuggets’ home game against the Utah Jazz Sunday night. Denver lost Saturday’s playoff game 45-10 to New England. Hancock is also sending Menino 40 pounds of Colorado beef,
including some “Tebow tenderloins.”
GREEN BAY, Wis. (AP) – Fans of the Green Bay Packers are still
in shock. After watching their team win 15 of 16 games this season,
following a Super Bowl-winning season, the Packers were dismantled
by the New York Giants last night 37-20. New York has won four
straight and now faces San Francisco for the right to represent the
NFC in the Super Bowl.
BALTIMORE (AP) – Baltimore’s Ravens are back in the AFC
Championship game. They will face New England next Sunday for the
right to be the AFC representative in the Super Bowl. The Ravens
earned their trip to Foxborough, Mass., with a 20-13 win on Sunday
over Houston. Baltimore finished the season 9-0 on the home turf.
MELBOURNE, Australia (AP) – Play in the Australian Open is under
way. Among the winners on Day 1 were women’s top seed Caroline
Wozniacki (wohz-nee-AK’-ee) and No. 3 Victoria Azarenka
(ah-zah-REN’-kuh). In men’s play, second-seed Rafael Nadal
(rah-fay-ehl nah-DAHL’) was a first-day winner along with No. 3
Roger Federer. Defending men’s champion and top seed Novak Djokovic
(NOH’-vak JOH’-kuh-vich) opens defense of his title this evening,
U.S. time.

paying its respects with several day games. Among the early starts,
Chicago is at Memphis and New York is home to Orlando.
