HIGH SCHOOL PLAYOFF SOCCER

The Glenwood Lady Demons take on Air Academy in a sweet 16 game in Colorado Springs tonight at 7.

The Coal Lady Titans the Roaring Fork Lady Rams play their sweet 16 games tomorrow. Coal Ridge plays Saint Mary’s at 1 o’clock. The Lady Rams try to upset top ranked Faith Christian in Lakewood.

BASEBALL PLAYOFFS

The Glenwood Demons are in the playoffs for the first time in three years. Tomorrow morning at 10, they’ll take on the district host Montrose Indians.

In 3A, the Rifle Bears battle the Rebels of Weld Central at Cooper Field in Rifle tomorrow morning at 10. If the Bears win, they’ll play either University or Colorado Academy at 3. All games involving the Bears will be broadcast live on the radio at 99.1 and 96.7 KMTS.

DENVER (AP) – Ty Lawson scored 32 points, fellow spark plug
Corey Brewer added 18 and the Denver Nuggets forced a Game 7 in
their first-round playoff series with a dominating 113-96 win over
the Los Angeles Lakers on Thursday night.
The Nuggets are one win from running the lumbering Lakers right
out of the playoffs. Game 7 in the Western Conference series is
Saturday night at the Staples Center.

DENVER (AP) – Denver Nuggets reserve center Chris “Birdman”
Andersen has been excused indefinitely from all team-related
activities after Douglas County sheriff’s deputies searched his
home Thursday as part of an investigation by the department’s
Internet Crimes Against Children unit.

ENGLEWOOD, Colo. (AP) – The Denver Broncos have agreed to terms
with veteran free agent cornerback Drayton Florence, who was
released by the Buffalo Bills last week.
Florence is a 10th-year pro whose release from the Bills was
regarded as a mild surprise. He had 45 starts in 46 games during
his three-year stint with Buffalo.

PHILADELPHIA (AP)- The Philadelphia 76ers are the fifth No. 8
seed to win a first-round NBA playoff series against a No. 1 seed
after dumping the Chicago Bulls 79-78 last night as Andre Iguodala
(ihg-woh-DAH’-lah) won it with a couple of free throws with 2.2
seconds left. In his second season, coach Doug Collins has led the
Sixers to their first winning season in seven years.

BOSTON (AP) – The Boston Celtics are the next challenge for Doug
Collins and his 76ers with that second-round series starting
Saturday night in Boston. The Celtics eliminated the Atlanta Hawks
with an 83-80 win in Game 6 led by Kevin Garnett’s 28 points, 14
rebounds and five blocks and hit the go-ahead bucket with 31
seconds left.

PITTSBURGH (AP) – Washington fireballer Stephen Strasburg struck
out 13 Pirates in six innings of work in the Nationals’ 4-2 win in
Pittsburgh last night. Adam LaRoche hit a two-run home run, Roger
Bernadina and Rick Ankiel (an-KEEL’) added solo shots for the Nats,
who own a half-game lead over Atlanta atop the NL East.

LOS ANGELES (AP) – More than 60 former NFL players have filed a
lawsuit in Los Angeles, joining hundreds of others who claim pro
football didn’t properly protect its players from concussions. The
lead plaintiff is Hall of Famer Art Monk, who played wide receiver
for the Washington Redskins from 1980 to 1993 and says he suffered
multiple concussions that are causing continuing problems to this
day.
