TITANS AND SUN DEVILS BATTLE FOR FINAL FOUR BERTH
Peach Valley—For the second time in three years the Coal Ridge Lady Titans soccer team will play in an Elite 8 game. This is the first time ever though that they’ve hosted a quarterfinal game. Coal Ridge will take on Kent Denver at 4 o’clock this afternoon in Peach Valley. KMTS will be on hand with live coverage. The winner will play either Manitou Springs or Peak to Peak in the final four this Saturday at 12:30 at All City Stadium in Denver.
CARGO 5 FOR 5 IN ROCKIES’ WIN
Chicago—(AP) – Carlos Gonzalez homered twice and finished with a career-high five hits to lead the struggling Colorado Rockies to a 9-4 victory over the Chicago Cubs on Tuesday night. Gonzalez was 5 for 5 and fell a triple shy of a cycle, and Eric Young Jr. also homered for the Rockies, who had lost five of their last six. Colorado increased its lead to 5-0 in the third when Gonzalez hit his eighth of the season deep into the right-field bleachers. His home run in the ninth put the Rockies up 8-3 and gave him nine multi-home run games in his career. Jeff Francis (2-3), winless since April 5, gave up one run and three hits while striking out seven in six innings. He was 0-3 with an 8.25 ERA over his previous six outings.

UNDATED (AP) – In the Stanley Cup playoffs last night Pittsburgh beat Ottawa 4-1 in the opening game of their Eastern Conference semifinal series and in Los Angeles the Kings beat the Sharks 2-0 in the first game of their Western semifinal.
ST. PETERSBURG, Fla. (AP) – Matt Moore of the Rays upped his record to 7-0 last night with six strong innings as Tampa beat the Boston Red Sox 5-3. Moore and Washington’s Jordan Zimmermann are tied for the major league lead in victories.
