Cuddyer hits RBI single in 9th, Rockies top Astros

HOUSTON (AP) – Michael Cuddyer had three hits, including an RBI single in the ninth inning that gave the Colorado Rockies a 2-1 win over the Houston Astros yesterday. Troy Tulowitzki doubled off Houston closer Jose Veras to start the ninth and advanced to third on a wild pitch. Matt Belisle threw a perfect eighth for the win.

Roy introduced as coach of Avalanche

DENVER (AP) – The Colorado Avalanche has introduced Patrick Roy as their new coach. They are turning to the Hall of Fame goalie to revive a franchise he once led to prominence. The 47-year-old Roy met the media for the first time yesterday. In addition to coaching, he will also serve as vice president of hockey operations.

Kroenke mum on Nuggets GM Masai Ujiri

DENVER (AP) – Nuggets president Josh Kroenke deflected any talk about the situation involving his general manager at yesterday’s announcement of Patrick Roy as the new coach of the Colorado Avalanche. Yahoo! Sports reported that the Nuggets allowed Masai Ujiri to meet with the Toronto Raptors about their GM vacancy over the weekend. Ujiri’s contract with Denver expires June 30.

Bohn resigning as Colorado athletic director

BOULDER, Colo. (AP) – Colorado athletic director Mike Bohn is resigning effective June 3. In a written statement issued yesterday, Chancellor Philip DiStefano said he had accepted Bohn’s resignation but did not give the reasons behind it. During Bohn’s time at Colorado, the Buffaloes moved from the Big 12 Conference to the Pac-12 and sent their basketball teams to the NCAA tournament.
