COLUMBUS, Ohio (AP) – Freshman Braxton Miller will start when
Ohio State hosts Colorado on Saturday.
The decision was announced by interim coach Luke Fickell on
Thursday on his weekly radio call-in show.
Fifth-year senior Joe Bauserman had started the first three
games for the Buckeyes (2-1), but the passing game – with Bauserman
and Miller splitting time – suffered in Saturday night’s 24-6 loss
at Miami. They combined to hit just 4 of 18 passes for 35 yards
with an interception (by Miller), with all four completions going
to running backs. Fickell said he hoped the change might energize the offense. He said he felt Miller could handle the pressure, and that his running
ability would be a big asset.

UNDATED (AP) – Both the Tampa Bay Rays and Los Angeles Angels
will try to inch closer to AL wild card leader Boston tonight. The
Red Sox, who are idle, hold a 2 1/2-game lead over both clubs. Tampa
Bay visits the AL East champion Yankees while the Angels visit
Toronto.

LOS ANGELES – The defending World Series champions are on the
brink of elimination. Any combination of two San Francisco Giants
losses and Arizona wins would give the Diamondbacks the NL West
title. San Francisco, which plays at Los Angeles tonight, trails
Atla 3 1/2 games for the NL wild card spot.

OAKLAND, Calif. (AP) – The Texas Rangers are closing in on their
second straight AL West division championship. They have a magic
number of 3 to clinch the title heading into this afternoon’s game
at Oakland. Former Athletics pitcher Colby Lewis (13-10) starts for
Texas today and will be chasing his third straight win.

ATLANTA (AP) – The PGA’s Tour Championship gets underway today
in Atlanta. Webb Simpson comes in as the No. 1 seed which gives him
the best shot of the 30-man field to capture the $10 million bonus
from the FedEx Cup. The 26-year-old Simpson picked up his first
career win this season at Greensboro and then won the Deutsche
(DOY’-chuh) Bank Championship two weeks later that set him up in
the Tour Championship.

NEW YORK (AP) – The exhibition game featuring LeBron James,
Carmelo Anthony, Kevin Durant and Chris Paul as teammates will be
streamed online by Sports Illustrated. The game between Melo’s
All-Stars and Team Philly on Sunday night in Philadelphia is being
called the “Battle of I-95.” The four NBA stars will play for the
Melo team, based in Baltimore, while the Philly team is led by
former Rookie of the Year Tyreke (ty-REEK’) Evans of Sacramento and
Hakim Warrick of Phoenix.
